Remote work has become the norm, and we now hold at least one online meeting every day. It facilitates communication with people all over the world. On the other hand, we absolutely miss being able to meet our coworkers face to face. Since the global pandemic, the entire globe has moved away from in-person meetings and toward virtual gatherings using PCs, laptops, tablets, and phones with cameras. Again, using webinar in everyday educational and business activities has become commonplace.
I've noticed the following benefits and drawbacks of meeting online:
THE ADVANTAGES OF ONLINE MEETINGS
Meetings can take place from anywhere as long as they have a computer (or tablet) with Wi-Fi, a headset, and possibly a webcam.
By recording every meeting, workers have more control over pacing and the option to re-review meetings they missed.
Workers who incorporate their "online community" into each meeting may discover that they have more meaningful participation and develop better bonds with coworkers through discussion forums and reviews.
THE DISADVANTAGES OF ONLINE MEETINGS
Commitment, diligence, tenacity, and self-discipline are required.
Employees must be aware about finding work-friendly meeting venues (quiet, reliable Internet access, good ergonomic setup).
For people who struggle with self-discipline, staying organized, managing deadlines, or absorbing concepts without live, interactive discussion, the work speed will be a curse.
If there is no solid method for employees to connect in relative real-time within and beyond the work area, they may feel detached, lonely, lost, and isolated from colleagues and supervisors.
Employees that are highly social and thrive on other people's energy may struggle with the online meeting environment's isolated and independent structure.
Finally, I'd like to share my infographic on Online Meeting Etiquette, which includes seven guidelines to follow. I hope you will find it useful to follow. If you have any other suggestions, please leave them in the comments section below.
Good luck and enjoy your Online Meeting benefits!
